General Information

The Contenders 4-H Club is located in Knox County, Ohio.  It was originally formed in 1999 as a horse 4-H club and has evolved to include members with a variety of additional projects.  We love to learn about our projects, serve our community, and have fun while doing this.  We support a number of local charities and encourage our members to broaden their horizons.

Each year, we have a major fund-raiser, an auction.  It is normally held near the end of January.  Anyone interested in attending the auction or donating a product or service for the auction can contact us.  What do we do with our proceeds?  We do a lot of things with our proceeds including: donating to the Knox Co. Fair Grandstand, Knox Co. Ag Museum, Knox Co. 4-H Center, Knox Co. 4-H Endowment Fund, & Knox Co. Equine Committee, Canine Companions for Life, purchasing 4-H books, purchasing club shirts, taking educational trips with our members, assisting members with purchases of safety helmets, Hooved Animal Humane Society, helping families in need, etc.

We have a regular club for members ages 9 (or 3rd grade) through 18 as of January 1 and a cloverbud group for those youth ages kindergarten through second grade.  During the winter months we meet at the Knox County 4-H Center in Mount Vernon.  In May, June, and July, our meetings are held at the Knox County Fairgrounds, also in Mount Vernon, Ohio.

Pictured above, we received a visit from a service dog, Baila, and her owner.  In pictures below, the club enjoyed a visit to the New Albany Classic where members got to see the band, Big Time Rush, perform live and had the opportunity to see world class show jumping.
